Performance Delta

Differentieelwissels

The MX-5 NC has a small-case differential with a 7" pinion, and the NC was only available with a limited number of ratios. For short-course racing such as hill climbs, sprints and circuit racing, the standard diff ratios can be too long, and you might favour quicker acceleration over maximum top speed.

We can supply the components to swap your differential from the standard MX-5 unit to the larger and stronger 8" pinion RX-8 diff, which has shorter ratios available, or a short-ratio gearset to increase acceleration. Alternatively, a hybrid gearbox retains the lighter MX-5 differential (or combines it with the RX-8 diff) and covers a broad range of options.

Calculated speeds are theoretical and based on the stated gear ratios, final drive ratio, engine rpm and nominal tyre size. Actual road speeds differ slightly with tyre growth under load, tyre brand and model, wear, pressure, torque-converter slip and speedometer accuracy.
