RX-8 rear knuckle conversion for the MX-5 NC

RX-8 Rear Knuckle Conversion

RX-8 Rear Knuckle Conversion for MX-5 NC1, NC2 and NC3

A severe rear hub failure can also damage surrounding components.
MX-5 NC rear wheel bearing failure
Standard MX-5 NC rear bearings can become a weak point on track-focused cars.

It is well documented that the standard MX-5 NC rear wheel bearings are prone to failure when traction is increased through wider, stickier, track-focused tyres. When this happens, the failure can be sudden and potentially catastrophic.

For most customers, the simplest and most cost-effective solution is to replace the factory MX-5 rear knuckles with RX-8 knuckles, together with a pair of hybrid driveshafts using MX-5 inner tripod joints and RX-8 outer CV joints.

This conversion retains the lighter, more compact MX-5 differential and your existing final drive ratio, whilst providing the strength required for higher power and track-focused applications.

We import our donor knuckles directly from Japan and keep a limited number in stock. Every conversion is built to order, so please allow approximately 3–4 weeks from placing your order to dispatch.

Imported from Japan

Why do we import components from Japan?

Components cleaned, protected and prepared for final assembly.

There are two main reasons.

Firstly, the specific driveshafts required for this conversion were never available in the UK, meaning importing them is the only option.

Secondly, although we previously used UK-sourced RX-8 knuckles, years of exposure to road salt often left them heavily corroded. While many were still serviceable, they simply did not meet the quality standards we expect from a Performance Delta product.

By sourcing directly from Japan, we can consistently obtain cleaner components that provide a far better foundation for refurbishment.

Refurbishment Process

Our refurbishment process

Every knuckle undergoes a comprehensive refurbishment before leaving our workshop. Each assembly is completely stripped, thoroughly degreased, vapour blasted, powder coated, and carefully rebuilt using high-quality components throughout.

Every kit includes:

  • New SKF wheel bearings, made in Japan
  • New genuine Mazda wheel studs
  • New mounting hardware
  • New MX-5 ABS sensors, modified specifically for the RX-8 knuckle conversion

The driveshafts receive the same level of attention, with every component inspected, refurbished and rebuilt before final assembly.

Technical Note: This conversion retains the MX-5 differential and final drive ratio, while using the larger RX-8 rear wheel bearing and hub flange arrangement. We can also offer this conversion for use with the RX-8 differential - please get in touch.
Built for Reliability

Engineered for reliability

The last thing anyone wants is a drivetrain failure halfway through a track day or after investing significant time into a build.

That is why we take the time to refurbish every component properly rather than simply supplying used parts. By starting with high-quality Japanese donor components and rebuilding them to our own standards, we can supply a conversion that is engineered for long-term reliability as well as performance.
