Overview

Spherical bearings (set of 4) for Cybul aftermarket front upper control arms on the Mazda MX-5 / Miata NC (2005–2015) and RX-8 (2003–2012). They replace the polyurethane bushes supplied with Cybul arms. Arms not included.

Designed for track-focused and race cars, where suspension geometry matters more than NVH (noise, vibration and harshness).

Also known as spherical bushes, rose joint bushes or pillow ball bushes.

ReplacesPolyurethane bushes supplied with Cybul arms
  • Less deflection, for sharper handling and steering response
  • Minimises alignment drift
  • Stiffer than standard rubber or polyurethane bushes
  • Low-friction PTFE (Teflon) liner between ball and body
  • Consistent damping through the full range of arm movement
  • No modifications to the chassis or standard mounting points
  • 4 × 7075-T6 aluminium spherical bearing housings
  • 4 × motorsport spherical bearings, pre-installed
  • 4 × internal snap rings to retain the bearings
  • 8 × 316 stainless steel spherical bearing bushings

The housings are pressed into the upper control arm using a retaining compound such as Loctite 603 – key the mating face first. Use a hydraulic press rather than a vice or bearing installation tool, to avoid misalignment and galling. Integrated bevels ease installation and can also be used for extra mechanical retention of the housing in the arm, if desired.

Spherical bearings or polyurethane bushes – what's the difference?

A polyurethane bush still flexes, and can bind as the arm moves through its travel. A spherical bearing rotates freely without deflecting, so your alignment and geometry stay where you set them under load. The trade-off is more noise and vibration passed into the car.

Can I use them on a road car?

They're designed for track-focused and race cars, where suspension geometry matters more than comfort. On a road car, expect noticeably more noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) than with rubber bushes.
